SunPlay Sensors

Full Sunlight Performance

Steradian brings the best technologies to your commercial business. No longer limited to the US military, these technologies will bring your business to the next level!

All of our laser tag sets incorporate our exclusive Sunplay technology. In other words, you can play laser tag in full sunlight anywhere, anytime, with long range. No other company offers this. We don't hide the sensors in a shaded enclosure...our Sunplay sensors are out there in the open, waiting for an incoming shot.

Integrated right into our Sunband (as seen on head below), these sensors detect a signal from an opposing gun at a long distance of 570' (152m) in full sunlight - GUARANTEED!!

The most sensitive sensor on the market!

If players hide a sensor, there are still two more on the SunBand
that are fully exposed... and another sensor over the lens barrel!

How does Sunplay technology benefit you?

• Play not confined to an expensive arena.
• Play Outdoors!
• Can be used for amusement parks, campgrounds, and many more places...
• Enough room for Professional-grade games.
• Offer laser tag as an addition to your paintball business

Sunplay Questions & Answers

Q. Several laser tag companies claim to have the same range, or better, than Steradian equipment. How can I test your (and their) equipment to make sure the range is as specified?

A. Well, first off, we guarantee our range to be what we advertise. If you receive a new Steradian gun and SunBand that doesn't perform to our stated specs, return it to us and we'll replace that set absolutely free!

How to Accurately Test Laser Tag Equipment Range

1) Since our claim for range is made under full sunlight, your test to compare equipment must also be made outdoors on a fully sunny day.
We use a calibrated light meter to be sure that we are testing under at least 120,000 lux of sunlight. Why? Because many kinds of infrared sensors may work at fairly long range if the day is cloudy or even cloudy-bright.

So... for accuracy, use one of the inexpensive light meters available on the web to be sure the conditions are the same that you'll be playing under on a hot summer's day. One typical light meter is http://www.extech-direct.com/EA31_EasyView_Light_Meter_p/ea31.htm

2) Take a rolling distance marker or measuring tape, a companion, and a pair of inexpensive radios to a part of your field where you and your companion will have a clear path of at least 500 ft.

3) Have your companion wear the SunBand; check that the radios are working and separate to about 300ft.

4) Write down the number of lux read from the light meter, and fire at the SunBand. Have your companion radio to you when the hit is recorded by his gun.

5) Repeat at various increases of distance until your companion no longer is registering hits. (You may want to use a scope on the gun to make long distance hitting easier.) Measure and record. Re-check the light level and record it alongside the measurement.

6) Using the longest distance you were able to score hits on his SunBand, repeat a couple times to be sure of your results.

7) Repeat the procedure to compare Steradian equipment with any competitor's equipment. Your own measurements will tell the Steradian story!

Q. Why does this matter to my business?
A. Happy customers! Full sunlight swamps stock off-the-shelf sensors, making it hard to hit even at short and medium ranges. With SunplayTM you know the sensor will take hits. So players can concentrate on having fun, rather than being frustrated with the equipment.

Q. How can Steradian guns be so much lighter and easier to handle than others on the market?
A. Because SunplayTM sensor circuitry is exclusive technology; the guns don't need to use extra-large lensing, which gives you a smaller, lighter and more durable gun.

Q. How does the SunBand virtually eliminate having players cheat by standing completely behind a tree or obstacle, or using one hand to cover the SunBand sensor while firing with the other?
A. Because the SunBand has three sensors equally spaced around the head, a player might cover one, but not the other two. And each sensor can record hits from the side... as well as straight on. If a player tries to wear a large hat over the SunBand, that's obviously cheating. BUT... it's unlikely for an active player to be able to keep a hat covering the large back sensor, plus his gun also has a separate sensor mounted on the barrel!
